How do you raise money while adhering to COVID-safe restrictions? Our 20:20 challenge campaign inspired everyday Aussies to re-think fundraising challenges with fun, achievable ideas.

Even before 2020, Vision Australia was at the forefront, developing a self-service platform named My Vision for Vision. Tailored to cultivate a younger, more digitally savvy community, the platform aimed to foster fundraising for Australians with blindness or low vision. Despite the obstacles posed by the pandemic, our campaign, the 20:20 challenge, not only adapted but thrived in inspiring individuals to reimagine their fundraising strategies.

Vision Australia Fundraising Campaign


Embarking on creating a compelling Facebook campaign, we recognised that helping people get started was the biggest hurdle. Research indicated a desire to fundraise, but there needed to be more ideas. With restrictions limiting traditional fundraising avenues, our task was to craft a campaign that motivated a younger generation with easy and achievable ideas while cleverly referencing the year and perfect vision (‘20:20’).

Our upbeat animation showcased three potential ideas for one’s ‘Vision for Vision’ – engaging in a physical activity twenty times, giving up something for twenty days, or performing a selfless act twenty times. Both the video and accompanying post drove engagement to the platform. To further support fundraisers, we developed digital tools, including a video conferencing background image and a Facebook profile filter, along with emails aimed at helping fundraisers share their vision with their network and reach their goals. The platform continues to operate successfully, serving its purpose years after the campaign’s inception.
